Organization: On the Danforth Magazine
Organization Bio: A biannual (Spring and Summer) magazine publication for the Danforth area of Toronto. Positions: Editor-in-chief, Writer, Designer Activities: Editorial and Design Direction, Editing, Writing, Design, Interviewing When: 2010-2011 |
Summary: As Editor-in-chief of the Spring 2011 issue, I transformed a lacklustre student publication into a professional magazine through strategic editorial and design direction, a re-envisioning of the brand platform and positioning, and a strong focus on relevant, timely and community-focussed content.
I wrote "Beyond Souvlaki: A View of Greek Cuisine from the Other Side of the Plate" for the Spring 2011 issue. The article explores the Greek culinary history of the Danforth area as described by some of its longest-standing and best-loved chefs and restaurant owners. The piece explores to what extent food has shaped the culture of the area, what the life of a chef is all about, and what the culinary and cultural landscape of the Danforth might look like going forward.
I also directed the design of the publication as part of the brand identity development, and jointly designed the cover (showcasing our feature interview with Rick Mercer) and other pages inside the magazine.
Target Audience: Danforth area residents and local small business owners.
